» What is FON:
FON is the largest WiFi community in the world. Founded in 2006 in Madrid, Spain, FON's mission is to stimulate growth of WiFi Internet access through its WiFi sharing community of "Foneros". FON's La Fonera WiFi routers have been specifically designed to enable Foneros to share their home access points with the FON Community. In return for sharing, Foneros gain free WiFi access everywhere in the world. FON's investors include Google, Skype, Index Ventures and Sequoia Capital.
» The FON Concept:
It all started as a simple idea. Why should you pay for Internet access on the run when you have already paid for it at home? Exactly, you shouldn’t! So we decided to help create a community of people who get more out of their connection through sharing.

We call members of the FON Community Foneros. It’s simple to become a Fonero. You just need to get a FON Router at home enabling you to safely share your home broadband connection with other Foneros.

Then when you’re away from home and you need Internet, just log on to a FONspot and you can use the Internet for free. You don’t need to take your router with you - you just need to remember your Fonero login and password.

» Participate in FON: Linus, Bill and Aliens:
Everyone can participate in FON either as a Linus, Bill or Alien. Linuses and Bills are registered Foneros who share their bandwidth with other Foneros. People who use the WiFi of a Linus or a Bill but do not themselves provide access to a FONspot are Aliens. Aliens purchase FON day passes for €3. Bills receive 50% of the revenues generated when a Alien purchases a FON pass from the Bill's FONspot.
» Fon is for everyone:
FON has something for everyone! Our vision of a WiFi Planet is possible through FON’s simple, safe and inexpensive WiFi router, the La Fonera, that allows everyone to share WiFi in a secured environment.
