Prepare your city for the digital future and offer your citizens and visitors wireless Internet access via WiFi! More and more cities in Europe choose WiFi internet access from FON. We are pleased to be able to offer this successful model now across Europe. The first cities and municipalities will receive up to 5000 free FONspots for public purpose.
The concept behind the FON Movement is simple, has a very low cost structure and generates fast results right from the scratch. This is how it works:
- First, the city arranges the basic WiFi coverage - eg by installing FON WiFi routers in public buildings and places. Thus, the initial service can be ready in only a few days.
- FON will provide to the city/municipality for FREE:
- the entire infrastructure and accounting etc. that is necessary for the backend of the service;
- the first FON routers & signal amplifiers needed for the basic coverage for public buildings and places;
- Subsequently, FON's city WiFi coverage will increase on its own through the citizens who became FON members already
- Citizens who are FON members provide their own internet via FON WiFi to the FON Community, and therefore can use the city Wifi for free
- Citizens who are FON members can also access any FONspot around the world - presently there are over 150.000 FONspots worldwide.
- Everyday you can watch how your city's WiFi coverage increases on the FON Maps. You can even see now those FONspots that are already in your city.
FON is a great way for European cities to organically build a community of Internet WiFi access. As Jean Claude Burgelman, Director of Joint Research Centre of the European Commission*, has said,“Let's have more FON.”
We look forward to hearing from you with your questions, suggestions and requests!
